HOPKINS, S.C. (AP) -- Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is trying to encourage children to be active by holding a community track meet.

Lott's deputies are hosting the 12th annual "All Comers Track Meet" Friday at Lower Richland High School in Hopkins.

Anyone age two and up can participate in a variety of track and field events. Lott says he hopes the event will teach kids about crime prevention. He also hopes the event will help build good relationships between law enforcement and community members.

Every child who participates will get free school supplies.
