FAIRFIELD COUNTY (WACH) -- Officials say they have a suspect in custody who they believe was involved in an early morning murder in Richland County.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department announced they were looking for 37-year-old Charlie Cason who allegedly broke into his estranged wife's apartment on Smallwood Road around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman fled to a neighbor's apartment where Cason followed and shot the victim in the upper body killing her.
Officials say Cason fled the scene in the victim's son's car.

The Fairfield County Sheriff's Department later located Cason on Highway 321 north of Winnsboro where he disappeared into a wooded area and began firing at deputies.

Officials with the department say no one was injured in this shooting and they have Cason in custody.  The weapon has been recovered.
