COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Bill Wylie, a South Carolina lawmaker and former president of sportswear giant Umbro America in the late 1990s, has died of a massive heart attack while on vacation in Jackson Hole, Wyo. He was 70 years old.
Teton County deputy coroner Dave Hodges said Wylie died Saturday evening at the Jackson Lake Lodge.
The Simpsonville Republican was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and was a graduate of Stanford University. After he retired as president of Umbro, he served as the chief executive officer of Goodwill Industries before running for the South Carolina House in 2008.
House Majority Leader Kenny Bingham said in a news release Sunday that Wylie had quickly become a voice for the business community and a proponent of government reform in his short tenure in the Legislature.
