COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Those who save lives in the Midlands, fire and medical personnel, are joining forces to help protect residents.
Starting Saturday, the Columbia-Richland Fire Department and Palmetto Health will offer free prostate cancer screenings.
Prostate cancer is most commonly diagnosed in men, and officials say early detection and prevention saves lives.
The free screenings, which involve a simple blood test, are open to men age forty and older.
"That's probably the longest part of it is filling out the paperwork and there will be a person on hand to draw their blood and then it's over," explains Columbia-Richland Fire Department Chief Aubrey Jenkins. "So it's not long, it's not drawn out. They get in pretty quick and get out pretty quick."
The screenings will be held at the Columbia-Richland Fire Department Headquarters from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday throughout the month of September.
