COLUMBIA (WACH) - A water line near the Elmwood Place Condos on Cedar Street in Columbia has been pouring water into the street for months – at least, according to residents who live in the area.
People in the neighborhood said they used to turn the water off until someone put a lock on it.
Now they said the water is just spewing down the street.
Their concern is over the large amount of water being wasted and who is footing the bill.
WACH FOX News contacted the City of Columbia about the issue.
City Engineer Joey Jaco said tenants who live in the Elmwood condos, have been complaining about having discolored water.
To fix the problem Jaco said the water has to run so the system can flush itself out and keep the water clear.
Jaco also said the water line problem is not uncommon and said residents won’t be charged for the running water.
Meanwhile Jaco said the city is doing what it can to ensure everyone has good quality water.
He said eventually the water main lines will be replaced in the area, but not right now because it’s not in the budget.
