Ex-sheriff faces additional drug charges

LEE COUNTY (WACH) -- Former Lee County Sheriff E.J. Melvin is facing an additional charge of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.  He has pleaded not guilty.

Melvin is already facing other drug conspiracy charges as police say he and two others dealt drugs from 2004 until the ex-sheriff's arrest this May.

His trial is expected to begin in October.

If convicted, he faces 10 years to life in prison.
