GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Republican Nikki Haley and Democrat Vincent Sheheen have shared their economic development ideas with business leaders in South Carolina.
The gubernatorial nominees spoke to about 250 people Wednesday at the Upstate South Carolina Alliance meeting in Greenville. They spoke and took questions for about 30 minutes but were not in the room at the same time. The regional economic development group will not endorse anyone in the race.
Both candidates say job creation must be the next governor's focus.
Haley says South Carolina would become a magnet for companies if it eliminates the corporate income tax. Sheheen says the state already has one of the nation's lowest corporate tax rates and that would put small businesses at a disadvantage.
