CHARLESTON (AP) -- South Carolina publisher and political consultant Rod Shealy, who helped elect current and former officeholders, has died. He was 56.
Lori Unumb said her brother died on Wednesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, two years after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous brain tumor.
The Irmo resident published six small newspapers but was best known as a bare-knuckles political consultant. His winning candidates included Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, former Treasurer Thomas Ravenel and Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom.
Shealy is survived by sons Rodney and Ross, two grandchildren, one brother and three sisters.
The family says visitation is scheduled for Friday evening at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home in Lexington. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peters Lutheran Church.
