COLUMBIA (WACH) -- State Representative Anton Gunn has been appointed as the regional director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Gunn released a statement Friday calling the opportunity to serve under Secretary Kathleen Sebelius a tremendous honor for himself and for South Carolina.
Gunn, who serves Richland and Kershaw counties, was elected in 2009 and sits on the Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs Committee in the House and has been a longtime advocate of health issues.
Gunn also served as a director for President Barrack Obama's 2008 campaign.
The DHHS oversees the health and well being of American citizens.
