GREENVILLE (AP) -- Authorities say a Marine stationed in Japan was returned to South Carolina to face charges in the 2007 death of a fast-food worker shot in the neck during a botched robbery.

A Greenville police spokesman said Tuesday that 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Eric Ransom of Greenville is charged with murder and attempted armed robbery.

A Marine Corps spokesman said Ransom was serving with the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan. Greenville police obtained a warrant for Ransom in July.

He is the second person charged in the January 2007 death of 22-year-old Wendy's worker Marvelin Bass III. Ransom's stepbrother, 21-year-old Korey Love, was arrested in March.

Prosecutors say Love had planned the robbery for weeks. Love's attorney says he is innocent. Love and Ransom are in jail without bond.
