COLUMBIA (WACH) - The new Verizon Wireless call center on Spears Creek  Church Road is nearly finished, but some neighbors are apprehensive.  They're concerned about a driveway leading in and out of the center from Woodcreek Ridge Drive.  Resident Todd Walter is worried about the traffic.

"The lights, the noise, it's a 24 hour operation all year round, its never closed."

Verizon broke ground on the facility in December, and will relocate hundreds of employees from it's own center in Midtown at Forest Acres.  The new facility is scheduled to open in the fall.

Columbia City Councilwoman Leona Plaugh heads a taskforce trying to broker a compromise between the developer and the residents of the Woodcreek Farms community.

"There are just a few other items we need to talk with the developer about maximizing the landscape, and they have done about 99.9 percent of it."

Walter says those little things are very important, "People use this road for jogging, walking, and bicycling, we're just trying to keep this from being a problem for people that live here."

The taskforce tentatively scheduled another meeting for August 10th. Officials from the school board and SCDOT are expected to attend.
