Post office armed robbery suspect arrested

RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) -- After  a two-month long investigation officials have arrested a suspect who they say robbed a post office at knifepoint.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department  arrested 49-year-old Mark Fitzgerald Roberts Wednesday.

Investigators say Roberts robbed the Dutch Fork Post Office on Briargate Circle in late April.

Roberts fled the scene after presenting a knife to postal workers demanding the money that was in the office.

Roberts was arrested without incident near Lady Street in Columbia.

Sheriff Leon Lott credits witness information in helping to identify and locate Roberts.
