COLUMBIA (WACH) --

After 45 years as a City of Columbia Firefighter, Chief James Shealy is saying goodbye.

A dinner was held in honor Monday night.

Shealy joined the force in 1965 and has held several positions in the department.

"My favorite part has been in staffing, because in staffing, you staff your truck," says Shealy.  "You know all the guys' personalities as you deal with them on-hand more than anybody else in the fire department."

Shealy says it's bittersweet to retire, but he will take with him both good memories and friends.
