COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Voters in Columbia's District II head to the polls in just one week to decide who will represent them on city council.
Next Tuesday in a special election, citizens will vote on a field of eight candidates.
They include, Josh Stroman, Alexzena Furgess, Harold "Puff" Howard, Brian Dequincey Newman, Emma McGraw Myers, Gary Myers, Jr., Antonio Williams and Catherine Bruce.
All eight originally filed to run before the election date was pushed back.
The race was clouded in controversy from the start.
It all started when the seat was left vacant after former Councilman E.W. Cromartie announced his resignation along with plans to plead guilty to federal tax evasion charges.
In urgency, the city decided to hold an election along with the vote for Columbia's mayor on April 6, giving voters just 23 days to learn about candidates.
That decision was challenged and reversed after a drawn out battle. It was ruled that the election would be held on July 13.
