MANNING (WACH) -- The controversial Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene is defending his campaign finances.
The State Law Enforcement Division wants to know if Greene Broke any laws in the way he presented his financial situation in court.
Greene had to pay a $10,000 filing fee to run for Senate, yet when he was in court for a felony obscenity charge, he was appointed a public defender.
Green has since hired an attorney.
He says he saved up his money to pay the filing fee.
"That money I saved from the Army and that public defender thing, they assigned a defender to me," Greene said Tuesday.
When asked about whether he qualified for the public defender when it came to his financial situation at the time he responded by saying, "Like I said, they assigned that defender to me."
The state Democratic party has asked for Greene to withdraw from the race, but Greene says he's not going anywhere.
