COLUMBIA (AP) -- Teachers are learning to create class and school gardens at a workshop in South Carolina's Midlands.
The state Agriculture Department hosts the first "Eat Smart -- It's in the Garden" workshop on Monday at the Sandhills Research Center in suburban Columbia. Those who teach preschool, elementary and after school programs as well as home school and Sunday school teachers are learning to plant, maintain and expand school vegetable gardens.
They're also sharing success stories for planting school gardens.
Funds for the workshop come from Eat Smart, Move More-SC. The group is a coalition of state agencies, schools, business and community groups working to promote healthy eating and active living in South Carolina.
