COLUMBIA (WACH) -- South Carolina Democrats have upheld the nomination of the unknown, unemployed vet for U.S. Senate.

The state's Democratic Executive Committee met Thursday night to discuss the outcome of the U.S. Senate race in last Tuesday's primary election.

Thirty-two-year-old Alvin Greene of Manning beat out opponent Vic Rawl in a surprising win.  Greene is an unemployed military veteran who did little in the way of campaigning for the win.

Rawl protested the results of the election claiming there was some sort of voting machine malfunction.

The committee nixed Rawls protest leaving Greene as the nominee.

Greene failed to appear at the meeting.  The committee says they did everything they could to have Greene present.

Greene will square off against Republican Jim DeMint and Green Party Canddiate Tom Clements this November.
