COLUMBIA (AP) -- An Army reservist and a county councilman face a Republican runoff in the lieutenant governor's race.

Florence County Councilman Ken Ard and lawyer and Army reserve Lt. Col. Bill Connor will face off June 22.

The winner will take on Charleston lawyer Ashley Cooper in November, the only Democrat in the race.

With nearly all of the precincts reporting, Ard had about a third of the vote and Connor about a little more than a quarter.

The two beat former state Insurance Director Eleanor Kitzman and former judge and state Sen. Larry Richter.

Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer is leaving the office after unsuccessfully seeking the GOP gubernatorial nomination Tuesday.
