MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- Officials of the state chapter of the NAACP again will monitor a black biker rally on the South Carolina coast for instances of discrimination.
The Rev. Nelson Rivers of Charleston joins other officials of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Myrtle Beach on Thursday to announce what is called Operation Bike Week Justice.
NAACP officials will monitor police activity and treatment of black tourists during the Atlantic Beach Bikefest that attracts black bikers at Memorial Day.
In 2008, officials in neighboring Myrtle Beach passed 15 laws to get rid of two springtime biker rallies.
Last year, Atlantic Beach officials said about 175,000 people attended the black biker festival, down from as many as 400,000 in previous years.
