COLUMBIA -- A fond farewell took place at Rosewood Elementary School Friday.
Students, faculty and good friends threw Principal Ted Wachter a surprise ceremony.
After 34 years, the longtime educator is calling it a career.
Part of the Celebration included Mayor Bob Coble, officially declaring May 14 Ted Wachter Day.
"I knew that two weeks ago there was going to be picnic for me but this was just a total surprise," Wachter said.
Earlier this year the general assembly recognized Wachter for his career accomplishments.
The retiring principal says for now, he plans to spend more time in his garden.
