COLUMBIA -- Anyone driving downtown has probably hit some bumps on North Main Street, but the road is finally starting to feel like new again.
Friday morning, local leaders celebrated the completion of the North Main Street Project phase 1A.
Congressman James Clyburn stopped by for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the milestone.
"All the way up to Fairfield Road, it's going to look like this, and every time we strike out to do it somebody's going to criticize it and there's going to be some controversy, but that's no reason for us not to do what's in the best interest of this community," Clyburn says.
Phase one included Elmwood Avenue to Anthony Street.
The second phase will affect Fairfield Road to Fuller Avenue.
Stimulus money is paying for the project.
