Officials with the Columbia Fire Department say the Columbia International's library has suffered major damage after a fire early Saturday morning.

According to investigators, a student was walking by the building library 5:00 a.m. when he noticed smoke coming from the building.  He notified one of the school's security guards who then called the fire department.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire by 10:00 a.m.

Officials say the fire started in or around a fluorescent fixture.  They have estimated the damages at $500,000.  No one was injured.
