COMMUNITY -- One local group is holding an event with the main goal in mind of generating jobs in the Midlands.
The Lexington Beautification Foundation is trying to up the ante in the community to draw residents and businesses in with a wine tasting event.
Jewitte Dooley brainstormed ideas with the group that heads the Lexington Beautification Foundation.
"It's important to have a beautiful town, a town people want to come to and generate revenue for people's personal value," Dooley says.
It's a real estate approach that Dooley says is the real deal when it comes to making business boom.
When people drive through Lexington and see a clean, kept community, Dooley says that will draw them in.
"Curb appeal at your house is important. Curb appeal in your community is just as important."
However, becoming appealing can cost money so Dooley and other beautification members are trying to get the word out about an event that will beautify Lexington and also allow people to network.
"This is such a great event, because on so many levels, it's a win-win situation for merchants, for the community, for Lexington," explains Becky Rickenbaker of Artist at Work Studios.
The studio is one of many businesses in Lexington that people can visit during the Wine Walk.
Rickenbaker says the Wine Walk gives residents and businesses a unique opportunity.
"After being here for only about a year to introduce our new facility to the community and to give them the opportunity to meet the artists, to come in and view the art work, sip some wine," she adds.
And it won't be poor quality. Group members are personally taste testing everything to make sure people will come back to the town they believe has a lot to offer.
The Wine Walk is this Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. at the 100 block of East Main Street.
