COLUMBIA (AP) -- Lt. Governor Andre Bauer spent Tuesday afternoon honoring those who give their time to the promotion and service of "seasoned citizens."
The presentations were part of Senior Day at the Statehouse, which is organized by the Lieutenant Governor's Office on Aging.
Honorees came from all over the state, including Cayce Centenarian Aline Coggins and Columbia's own Honor Flights Chair Bill Dukes, but Tuesday's outstanding older South Carolinian Award went to Mrs. Jean Bridges of West Columbia who has some simple advice.
"Just get out there, get involved, and have the time of your life," Bridges says.
"Whoever takes the baton from here, I hope you'll give them a lot of support, and urge them to continue to do what we can to make senior's lives better than anywhere else in the country, and that we want to have more and more seniors retire to South Carolina," Bauer adds.
Bauer started the activities by leading seniors on a walk on Statehouse grounds to promote healthy lifestyles.
May is Older Americans Month.
