The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of the Midlands until 10 pm Monday.  The counties included in the watchbox are Aiken, Calhoun, Clarendon and Orangeburg.

The National Weather Service confirms that an EF1 tornado touched down in northwest Fairfield County Monday morning.  The tornado hit the Shelton Road community near SC 215.  The tornado packed winds between 86 and 110 miles per hour.  The storm downed trees and damaged a home.

Another was confirmed near the Georgia state line in Abbeville County.

No injuries have been reported from either.

A frontal system slowly working its way through the southeast is the main reason rain and storms are popping up around the southeast.  Severe weather has already struck portions of the southeast.  Eastern Georgia has seen a tornado warning this afternoon.

"Tornado Watches are not issued lightly," says SkyWACH Weather Anchor Justin Kier.  "The best thing to do is stay aware of the current weather situation.

Flash flooding is also a potential risk due to the heavy amounts of rain involved with this system.  Earlier this afternoon, the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City reported storms producing one inch of rain per hour.

We'll continue to update our Severe Weather Page and interrupt broadcasts as necessary.
