SPARTANBURG (AP) -- Authorities are reopening a stretch of Interstate 85 in North Carolina closed during a standoff with a man suspected of homicide and arson in South Carolina.

North Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Gordon says the suspect surrendered Tuesday morning after authorities closed the interstate in Davidson County while waiting for him to give up. Gordon identified the suspect as 45-year-old Arthur Duval Mims of Duncan.

Multiple media outlets report that authorities responding to an early morning shooting at a home in Duncan found the house on fire. Deputies say one person in the home was dead and another was injured. Their names have not been released.

Authorities say they chased a suspect up I-85 from Spartanburg County.
