SUMTER -- More than 300 people in Sumter County are in the pokey after a four month crime crackdown.

The State Law Enforcement Division has teamed up with local and federal authorities for Operation Sumter Surprise.

Officers have been making arrests in the sting since November, but SLED Director Reggie Lloyd says he's had enough.

Sumter Police Chief Patty Patterson says Sumter investigators are dealing with the city's highest number of murders since 1992.

Chief Patterson did not say when Operation Sumter Surprise is expected to end.
