ROCK HILL -- Federal safety regulators are holding a public meeting to discuss safety at a nuclear plant in South Carolina.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is holding an open house Monday evening at Rock Hill City Hall to talk about the agency's annual safety assessment of the Catawba Nuclear Station near the South Carolina-North Carolina state line.

The NRC says its staff concluded overall that the plant operated safely last year.

In February, Duke Energy shut down one reactor at the plant to repair a small leak in the cooling system.

Duke Energy operates three nuclear stations in the Carolinas. The other two are McGuire Nuclear Station near Charlotte, N.C., and Oconee Nuclear Station in the northwest corner of South Carolina.
