ORANGEBURG (AP) -- South Carolina's largest historically black university paid its former president $60,000 as part of a settlement of his lawsuit against the school for firing him.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg on Sunday reported details of South Carolina State University's February 2010 settlement with Andrew Hugine that the newspaper obtained through the state's Freedom of Information Act.
The school also agreed to record Hugine's departure as a resignation and to remove the board's final evaluation from his personnel file. Hugine's name will remain on a student apartment building.
Hugine was president of S.C. State from 2003 until 2007 and worked more than 30 years in various roles at the university.
He is now president of Alabama A&M University.
