COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A statewide group is holding a daylong summit to discuss ways to prevent obesity.

Eat Smart, Move More SC is holding an obesity prevention summit Wednesday in Columbia.

The meeting features keynote presentations by Carole Garner of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Center to Prevent Childhood Obesity, and Chip Johnson, mayor of Hernando, Miss.

Organizers say obesity rates in South Carolina have more than doubled since 1990, with almost two-thirds of citizens considered overweight or obese.

On Monday, the USDA's Food and Nutrition Service Administrator Julie Paradis visited with state officials in Charleston to discuss ways to improve meals for South Carolina's school children.
