An effort is underway in Calhoun County to honor some of our nation's bravest.  A memorial wall, containing engraved bricks will soon go up in the heart of town.

"Without our veterans, we would not be where we are today," said Calhoun County resident Barbara Robinson.  "I've had a lot of ladies call me on the phone and say this is long overdue."

So Barbara Robinson is answering that call.  The Midlands resident is leading the effort to build the memorial wall that will honor her five brothers and other vets who served.

"It touches my heart deeply," said Robinson.

1,200 bricks will make up the memorial, which will soon sit parallel to the Calhoun County Courthouse.  So far nearly 300 bricks have been sold, but the job is far from over.

"To have sold this many bricks in a small county like Calhoun it just shows what an important project this is," said Calhoun resident Nina Mack.  "But now we are looking towards the businesses and we hope that our local businesses will contribute."

"It's going to be a great asset to the courthouse grounds," said resident Craddock Morris.

Morris served in the Korean war.  His two brothers were also in the military, making the memorial very personal.

"We felt this was needed for a long time in Calhoun County," said Morris.

"The community definitely is excited about it," said Robinson.

Because of that community excitement and support, more than 30,000 dollars have been raised to help turn the patriotic dream into reality
