(AP) -- CHARLESTON, S.C. A foundation that has developed apartments in four South Carolina communities is beginning work on two new units.

Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. is on hand Monday to help the Humanities Foundation break ground for 114 new apartment units for senior citizens at two complexes in the city.

Construction of the projects, being developed with a combination of private and public money, will cost $14 million and create more than 500 jobs.

The foundation, established in 1992, has developed apartment complexes in Charleston, North Charleston, Port Royal and Orangeburg.

It recently expanded development efforts into Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee
