COLUMBIA -- April is sexual assault awareness month and one group is hoping they can make a difference.
Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands kicked off their series of awareness events Thursday.
The non-profit organization is hoping they can raise the public's awareness to these crimes and help educate families to help prevent sexual violence.
"One in four women and one in six men will be sexually assaulted before the age of 18," explains Jenny Waller. "That's a high number. You may know someone who's been assaulted. If you are more aware of it, you can better protect yourself and your children.
