COLUMBIA -- On the final day to file for the South Carolina gubernatorial primary, Attorney General Henry McMaster made it official Tuesday.
His bid for governor comes exactly eight years after he filed to run for his current position.
"South Carolina can once again be a national leader in job creation and economic growth," McMaster said in a statement. "But costly Washington bailouts and unconstitutional federal mandates are blocking our path to prosperity."
Friday, U.S. Representative Gresham Barrett filed saying, “I am running for Governor to put South Carolina back to work. I’ll be the state’s number one salesman and, I won’t quit until every South Carolinian who wants a job, has one.”
Lt. Governor Andre Bauer added his name to the list last Thursday. “I’ll roll up my sleeves and work hard, and personally recruit new industry," Bauer said. "I’m a tireless advocate for our state. I will go to them. There are 273,455 people in SC looking for jobs…and I won’t rest until there’s a good job for every one of them."
State Representative Nikki Haley is also on the ballot. When she announced her bid, she said, "I know what good government can look like. I'm running for Governor so the people of this state will know what it feels like."
All four candidates will square off in the June 8 primary.
