Catherine Bruce has been disqualified, leaving seven candidates in the race.

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Columbia city council candidate Catherine Bruce has been disqualified from the impending District II race.

Thursday morning, the Municipal Election Commission voted unanimously to disqualify the District II resident.

According to the commission, Bruce filed two minutes late after a noon filing deadline on March 19.

Bruce would have been the eighth candidate in the District II election to replace longtime councilmember E.W. Cromartie.

The commission also decided on a final list of qualified candidates.

-Local activist and volunteer

-Former Richland One teacher
