SUMTER -- Tuomey Regional Medical Center is facing a $277 million for Medicare fraud.
The government alleges several doctors filed bogus Medicare claims over a four year period.
People in the community are worried about what may happen if the hospital is held liable.
"Oh, I don't even want to think about that," says Sumter Mayor Joseph McElveen. "I don't want to know what would happen."
McElveen estimates between 1,600 and 2,000 people are employed in some way by Tuomey.
Closing arguments are expected to begin Tuesday morning in Columbia.
