COLUMBIA -- Columbia City Council allowed public transit stimulus money in the amount "Not to Exceed 466,00."
Wednesday's meeting was held due to CMRTA's prior interim funding agreement, that required approval from city council before accepting federal money. Council voted unanimously in favor of the federal infusion.
The proposed changes come as a result of a study that examined the public transit system's weakness.
A new plan will collapse down some less-used while adding times to locations that have been show to need more service.
CMRTA Executive Director Mitzi Javers stood before City Council This morning and feels that this infusion will allow the long-ailing system to get back on route.
"We're hopeful that it may earn us some choice riders, that more folks will use the transit system, and then last but not least, that the transit system will become more reliable for those who need it the most."
Some of the bigger changes the funds will provide include Sunday service to Harbison and St. Andrews area and a maintenance and improvement plan to city bus stops.
