It's part of their Freedom of Information Day celebration.
COLUMBIA -- Tuesday is Freedom of Information Day, celebrating the birthday of President James Madison.
To celebrate, the South Carolina State Library announced the most notable documents of 2009.
State Library Director David Goble handed out awards to a variety of agencies including the state museum, Department of Natural Resources and South Carolina Educational Television.
There was also a variety of documents, which ranged from articles and calendars to documentaries and websites.
But what exactly makes a document notable?
"They are the present day history of South Carolina," Goble says. "It's important for people to know what their government is doing, and this collection allows people to know that."
One of the winning documents was a children's activity calendar. Denise Lyons received the award for the calendar.
"It teaches people to be able to look in their own backyard, and I think that's what it has in common with the other winners today, they all celebrate South Carolina," Lyons explains.
All winning documents are available to view at the State Library on Senate Street.
