NEW YORK (AP) — Laborers hoping to help rebuild the World Trade Center site are holding a rally in New York City to urge for quicker action on the project.
There's a Friday court deadline for arriving at a rebuilding schedule.
Construction is under way on 1 World Trade Center, a memorial, and a transit hub. But the building of other planned towers has stalled.
Hundreds of workers gathered next to the site Tuesday. Many wore fluorescent vests and hard hats, and some held signs saying, "Port Authority, Save Our Jobs."
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey controls the property. The agency has said it does not believe public financing for the entire project is the answer.
Developer Larry Silverstein has said he cannot get private financing for all three towers he's allowed to build there.
