Sumter- Days after someone broke into Robert Johnson's Love Street home a police cruiser still sits outside.

"I just wanted to see what happened but the officers told me to stay inside so I just looked out the window".

Officials say just before six Friday morning a man busted into Johnson's home.  That's when officials say Johnson confronted the man and the intruder shot him in the chest.

"To have some one do that to my brother-in-law is something I can't deal with".

The shooting is all to familiar for Holland 22 years ago her husband was shot and killed next door but Holland points out this is not typical for her neighborhood.

"It's very quiet around here this kind of thing doesn’t happen on Love Street.

Johnson has lived in Sumter for 15 years after retiring from the military, and has been working as a corrections officer during that time.

He remains in the hospital and there is no word on his condition.
