CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina tourism officials are heading to the mall to attract visitors to the state as part of a new travel promotion.

The state has set up tourism displays in malls near Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta as part of a promotion that "South Carolina is Made for Vacation."

The so-called vacation stations offer more than just brochures and tourist information.

Through interactive computer technology, folks can see how long they can keep a beach ball in the air.

They also can compete for a free South Carolina trip by posing in front of a banner as if they are water-skiing.

They then upload a picture to the state's tourism Facebook page to enter.

Tourism contributes more than $18 billion to the state economy.
