COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A meeting to discuss giving tax breaks to South Carolina homeowners has been postponed.
Residents currently pay a higher tax rate for property they own but don't live in full-time. A Senate Finance subcommittee was set to take up legislation Tuesday letting homeowners pay the lower, owner-occupied rate on two homes before the postponement.
One bill would allow homeowners having difficulty selling their home to continue paying property taxes on the vacant home and their new home as if both are their main residences.
Another bill would extend the tax break for up to five years if someone buys a second home for a new job at least 150 miles away.
