COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A report legislators are waiting for as they fix the finances of the South Carolina jobless benefits system has been delayed.
The Lucas Group told legislators Friday they'll get the much-anticipated report before their Tuesday session. The consultant said the report was delayed because it took more time than expected to get and analyze information from the Employment Security Commission.
The House this week approved legislation overhauling the commission as a new Cabinet-level Workforce Department that would report to the governor. The Senate is debating its own version of that measure.
Legislators want the consultants' report as they decide how to eliminate a shortfall in the state's jobless benefits trust fund, forcing federal borrowing expected to top $1 billion.
