Columbia may be home to a cutting edge hydrogen fueling station but some critics say the city is behind the 8-ball when it comes to being environmentally friendly. The Sierra Club hosted a forum for Columbia's mayoral candidates Monday night.
Cleaner rivers, reducing ground level ozone and establishing a recycling program in Five Points are among some of the concerns Sierra Club members have. "Much of the efforts that have gone on here have been spurned by the university, not the city." says Sierra Club Chair Jeremy Grant. "So we have a long way to go."
"There are a lot of things that come into play when I give my vote." says USC Student Laila Hussein "But this is one of the top 3 things I'm going to consider because its a long term change."
