COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Former S.C. Governor David Beasley is throwing his support to the Ken Ard campaign for Lt. Governor. The campaign announced Monday Beasley will serve as Ard's campaign chairman.

Both men are Florence County Republicans. Ard is seeking the Republican nomination against Orangeburg Attorney Bill Connor.

A debate set for Tuesday night at USC between the two candidates was cancelled Monday. Ard campaign spokesman Robert Cahaly said the debate was cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. Cahaly said the campaign was open to rescheduling the USC debate and was still planning to participate in a debate versus Connor Monday in Anderson.

The Connor campaign also picked up an endorsement Monday by announcing the endorsement of retired Marine Major General and Medal of Honor recipient James Livingston.
