COLUMBIA (AP) -- A 14-year-old student in South Carolina has been arrested and accused of having a gun on campus.
Multiple media outlets reported the Richland District 2 student was arrested Tuesday morning at the school.
The teen's name was not released because of his age. He's accused of having a 9 mm pistol in his waistband.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says the youth is charged with carrying a weapon on school grounds and illegally carrying a pistol.
Lott says other students learned a fellow student was carrying a pistol Monday and told their parents, who called deputies.
Bullets for the pistol were found in a bag in a classroom.
Lott says he doesn't know why the teen had the gun.
