A barbeque fundraiser was held on Friday helping one of Lexington County's own fight cancer.
"It makes me feel great," said Clay Dixon. "It's awesome to have a lot of people come out here just to help me."
In many ways Clay Dixon is your typical 8-year-old. He enjoys playing with friends. But what's not so typical is the battle Clay is fighting. He has a brain tumor, which his mother says is inoperable.
"At some point because of where it is, it's going to cause problems," said Clay's mother Cathy Dixon.
But at this moment she's happy to talk about how far her son has come; as well as what the future holds for her baby boy.
"I just want to see Clay grow up and go to college, and get married," said Cathy Dixon. "It could happen."
Friday's fundraiser was originally designed to help the family buy a new air-conditioner and heating system for their home. But one Lexington County business stepped in to help out.
"Hopefully it will keep them warm this winter and cool this summer," said Wallace Henzer with Right Temp Heating and Air.
"If it wasn't for people coming out helping, we just couldn't make it," said Cathy Dixon.
"Clay's family had massive amounts of medical funds from his cancer," said Lexington County Sheriff's Lt. J.J. Jones. "And we're doing our best to make their lives a little bit easier today."
The money raised will now go towards those medical expenses to help this young survivor continue his fight.
"Clay does live such a full life because to him he's not really sick, he just has a little extra," said Cathy Dixon.
The event raised $4,326.
