CHARLESTON (AP) -- Another candidate is running for South Carolina's open 1st District seat -- a race that features the son of a former senator and son of a former governor.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports Republican Stovall Witte has entered the race. He was Republican U.S. Rep. Henry Brown's first chief of staff before becoming a vice president at Charleston Southern University.
Witte is quitting his university job to campaign full time.
Witte joins Paul Thurmond, son of the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond, and Carroll Campbell III, son of the late Gov. Carroll Campbell, in seeking the GOP nomination to replace Brown, who is not running for re-election.
Two other Republicans and three Democrats are also running.
