COLUMBIA (AP) -- Democrats in the South Carolina House say they will push for tax credits for alternative energy and try to make it harder for state agencies to increase fees.

Democrats said Thursday they also support saving more money for tough times.

House Minority Leader Harry Ott of St. Matthews said Thursday his caucus will focus on creating jobs, strengthening ethics laws and calling for comprehensive tax reform.

Charleston Rep. Leon Stavrinakis says tax credits for "homegrown energy" would create jobs while reducing dependence on foreign oil. Ott says that includes nuclear energy.

Democrats say fee hikes by agencies should require legislative approval. Ott called the fees hidden taxes that hurt families and businesses.

Like Republicans, Democrats also say reforming the Employment Security Commission is a priority.
