The Vineyard Crossing subdivision is shaken up by weekend shooting.
RICHLAND COUNTY -- Carla Salley lost her 23-year-old son Anthony on Saturday.
According to authorities, Jamaal Hinson and Anthony Salley were arguing, when Hinson pulled out a gun and shot Salley.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says the shooting is an isolated case, and as far as they know, it’s not gang or drug-related.
"This is something that was brought to Anthony,” says his mother Carla Salley. “They approached Anthony."
The shooting took place in the Salley’s front yard on Baccharis Drive in the Vineyard Crossing subdivision.
Neighbors say the area is relatively safe and hasn’t experienced any crime in the past.
The Salley’s have lived in Vineyard Crossing for three years. Anthony’s mother says she there to keep her family away from crime. The subdivision is regularly patrolled by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
“We know that he is now with his Lord and Savior," says Carla, "and it’s not easy because we’re going to miss him, but that’s the peace I have."
As the Salley’s grieve their son’s loss, they realize that no neighborhood is completely safe.
